The ship-type is an Elizabethan galleon, as at the end of the 15th century. Sweden, Stockholm. The star attraction of the Vasa Museum is the 226-foot-long (69-meter-long) warship Vasa, which sank in 1628 on her maiden voyage from Stockholm.Exhibitions allow visitors to view all six levels of the restored ship, and chronicle the building of the Vasa, the passengers and events of its fateful maiden voyage, and the long task of restoring and preserving the historic vessel. At the Vasa Museum Stockholm one can view the ship as well as most of the items on board when it sank. The main hall of the Vasa Ship Museum houses the restored galleon, which soars to a height of 190 ft and has a total surface area of 150,000 sq ft.

The museum is built around the findings from the largest excavation in Stockholm. Our underground exhibition features 55 meters of the original 16th century town wall, a medieval graveyard and a war ship.
